CAPRIVI STRIP

BACK TO DESTINATIONS

Running along the northeastern border of Namibia is the Caprivi Strip, a narrow panhandle of land whose shape was determined a century ago by European colonial politics. In contrast to most of Namibia, the Caprivi is a land of rivers and wetlands where hippo and crocodile abound and tropical flora flourish in the rich alluvial soil. The ‘strip’ is a birder’s paradise with over 300 species of bird including numerous colorful tropical species. Fishermen will enjoy vying for bream, tigerfish, and catfish. in August and September huge elephant herds congregate along the Chobe River.
