CAPRIVI STRIP |
Running along the northeastern border of Namibia is the Caprivi Strip, a narrow panhandle
of land whose shape was determined a century ago by European colonial politics. In
contrast to most of Namibia, the Caprivi is a land of rivers and wetlands where hippo and
crocodile abound and tropical flora flourish in the rich alluvial soil. The
strip is a birders paradise with over 300 species of bird including
numerous colorful tropical species. Fishermen will enjoy vying for bream, tigerfish, and
catfish. in August and September huge elephant herds
congregate along the Chobe River.

IMPALILA
ISLAND LODGE
Private airstrip
Nestled at the junction of
four countries, - Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Zambia - and surrounded by the
Zambezi and Chobe Rivers, is the Impalila Island Lodge. This is an ideal
location for viewing animal and birds by boat or mokoro (dug out canoe) while
cruising on the Zambezi or Chobe Rivers. In September, elephant herds cross
these rivers and it is quite a sight to see. For the fisherman it is a wonderful
place to fishing for the feisty Tiger fish. Not far from the lodge is a
traditional fishing village that can be visited to learn about the local
people. An open-air central lodge complements six en suite chalets with private
verandahs and unique raised swimming pool with views of the flood plain.
LIANSHULU LODGE

Game viewing from a landrover and from a riverboat in the Lianshulu River. The camp, now

camp fire after dinner. Botswana is a stone-throw away across this small tributary of the
Cuando River.
